Another reason for
computer performance slows down is because we have dust inside the computer. Loading
and moving between files is a crawl and you will get impatient even if you know
the computer is a reasonably fast one. In order to check you will have to open
up the casing and have a peek. See if there is any accumulated layer of dust on
the inside casing.
Especially, on the
CPU fan (central processing unit). 2nd area will be the PSU (power
supply unit). As the fan spins, it blows air to the heat sink to take out the
heat from the CPU. This will make small particle stick to the unit slowly and
after sometime, you will see layer and layer of dust collected on the unit.
When layers of dust
accumulate on the CPU and the heat sink area, the air will not be able blow air
properly to cool down and take the hot air out. The CPU will get hot and performance
on the computer will be slow.
I find that using medium
size paint brush to brush out the dust will be the best option to clean dust
for the computer. I can maneuver around inside the casing with the medium brush
without much problem, especially the heat sink metal plate area. After that, I can
use the vacuum cleaner to suck up all the dust.
Beware that dust
particle are very light and might go all over the place as you clean with the
brush, so for those that have sensitive nose, please use a face mask .
When finish, make
sure that you use a finger and give the CPU fan a spin. Why? The CPU fan should
spin freely, so it should not be spinning slowly or feel like it’s stuck. If it
is slow spinning meaning there should be dust ball still stuck on the bottom
blade section of the fan.
Close back the casing
and try to power up and the computer should feel more comfortable to work on.
